How should I store my jewellery?

Jewellery should be stored away from natural sunlight and heat, in a protective (lined) jewellery box or a tarnish-resistant pouch. It can also be stored in an air tight plastic bag made of Mylar or polyethylene. Never use polyvinyl plastic bags, such as bin liners as they contain sulphur compounds, which will make sterling silver tarnish even faster. Also do not store your jewellery in the bathroom or in moist areas.

Please note that our gift boxes are not made for long term storage because they are not airtight.

How should I clean and care for my jewellery?

In order to care for Thium products, we recommend using the polishing cloth provided regularly to prevent the process of tarnishing. Clean your jewellery using lukewarm soapy water and a soft brush and ensure your jewellery is never submerged in the water. We strongly advise against exposing the jewellery to harsh chemicals, including ammonia, bleach, chlorine and salt water. Thium encourages customers to remove the jewellery prior to cleaning, swimming and bathing and make sure that the jewellery is not exposed UV light, hairspray, perfume and cosmetics etc. Leather care creams are recommended for use on our leather items.

Care Guide

How should I care for my jewellery?

Your jewellery should be handled with care at all times.

Tarnishing will happen much faster when it comes into contact with agents such as perfume, salty air, sulphur, skin creams, hairspray, chlorine and an acidic skin ph. The amount of tarnishing (oxidation) that occurs is dependent on your skin and care habits. Tarnishing is therefore not a manufacturing fault.

We recommend that you do not wear your jewellery whilst bathing, whilst in bed or during sporting activities. Always undo the clasp(s) to remove your jewellery and treat it carefully.
